Features Boss GEB-7
The GEB-7 is a seven-band equalizer designed for the electric bass’s frequency range. The GEB-7 is great for tweaking the depth and bottom end of an upright bass with pickups because it covers a frequency range from 50Hz to 50Hz.
The Boss GEB-7 is a seven-band equalizer that is attenuated for bass instruments but may be used with others for experimental effects, featuring a range down to 50Hz and functionality as a boost/cut via the volume knob. This pedal is versatile enough to use on bass guitars, as well as acoustic bass instruments. It’s a must-have item for any bassist’s gear.
I have used a few good eq pedals in my day, but I always go back to the boss GEB-7. In lengthy signal chains the buffered bypass is essential The frequencies to boost or cut are perfect. No cons in my opinion.
I have found the Boss GEB-7 Bass EQ to be a fantastic, musical way to boost my volume when taking a bass solo. I tend to boost the low mids for the most part and also the dB level so that when it comes time for me to solo, I simply kick on the GEB with the settings I just explained, and I am “on top” of the rest of the band. I would caution users to mind the amount of boost on any frequency and/or the dB meter as this thing is powerful and can really push your amp and speakers. When I boost the low mid frequencies, it is very, very slightly and the same amount goes for the dB level.
After years of trying to perfect my bass tone, this was the secret ingredient I needed to tame boominess and dial in that growl I’ve been chasing for so long. It is a little noisy when engaged.
Review Boss GEB-7 Bass Equalizer
This is my favorite EQ of the moment. Especially useful for those who are looking for detailed control over the lows and low mids. The “Q” on these slider, esp in the low mids, is fairly tight, which I find really cool. That also makes possible “cocked wah” kind and sounds, esp cool at 800Hz here. It’s not the quietest EQ in terms of noise floor, but still quiet enough that I went ahead and gave it five stars; you will too.
Boss pedals are built like tanks, they generally have a very tried and true formula. The GE-7 and GEB-7 do a few things you may not have thought to use them for. Level slider is functionally a boost/cut control, bypass buffer is great to have in the chain as well.
I use it as a way to have more bite when I engage the pedal. The only reason I didn’t give this pedal 8 stars is that the boost is extremely touchy, and can distort very quickly. However, as long as you are careful, it is easy to work around.
This pedal does exactly what it should. Fair price and good build quality. I use it for small tweaks and have not noticed any additional noise in the signal. For my taste, I would like to see the the 10K slider eliminated and add something in the 2k range. Battery life seems to be pretty ok so far. As far as tone shaping is concerned, it is amazing. Very easy to carve out the sound I’m looking for and its output signal is really clean and quiet.
I use it after all my pedals and was able to dial in the near exact sound as my on-board GK EQ, but with a little deeper low end as the slider is at 50hz while the amp is 60. So now I have the option of using the amp or leaving it home and plugging into any amp with a flat EQ where ever I go to jam, keeping the same tone (in theory). The only thing I wish it had was one more slider, at 7khz for just a little more high end clarity other than just the 10k sharpness.
