The unique features of Boss TU-3 guitar tuner include the multi-colored LCD, which was never seen before on the traditional clip-on guitar tuners.
It has various selectable tuning possibilities for bass/guitar and popular chromatic modes (in contrast to non-chromatic tuners, allow you to determine the semitones). They are more perfect and are needed for fine tuning musical instruments. Thus, selecting the “Chromatic” option, the tuner displays the nearest note. Using “Guitar / Bass” selection, Boss TU-3 indicates the number of the currently tuned string. Also, tuner equipped with two indication modes. The “Cent” mode display the pitch of played at the moment the note. “Stream” mode shows whether you are above or below the desired note. By using guitar flat mode, you will be able to tune qualitatively as many as six semitones even below standard pitch. Verification signal in visual form appears after tuning will be done. Boss TU-3 guitar tuner helps you tune by offering support for 6 string bass and 7 string guitar.
The tuner is equipped with one input and two outputs: “Output” and “Bypass”. This is another feature of the Boss TU-3, because 2 outputs will allow you to use it as a “Split Box”. What is the difference between the outputs? “Output” allows for silent tuning. “Bypass” simply passes the signal. A very handy option for live concerts. As for power supply, like most Boss guitar pedals, the TU-3 runs on a 9-volt battery or power adaptor. Neither one nor the other is included in the kit, so you have to buy them separately. Also you can supply power to other pedals (up to 7).

- The available modes are all super handy.
- Love the mute feature to spare the crowd from turning up.
- The bypass feature is incredibly useful as well.
- It’s a tuner that will tell you what note you’re playing, and you can throw it down the stairs without it breaking.
Pretty simple review. It works exactly as you’d expect, it shows your tuning, there are a few options the manual can explain. It’s bright and easily visible in any lighting situation. There is no delay between foot taps tune in immediately, then sound back immediately. My only drawback with this pedal is that it is a Boss pedal, meaning it’s not small, a smaller pedal wouldn’t give up so much precious pedalboard space.
I have tried Vox Amp Tuners, the mobile clip on Tuners, and by far this Boss TU-3 works so much better, and you can hear the difference. I own an Epiphone SG, and it can be a challenge to tune, but this Tuner makes quick work of it every time!
Boss TU-3 Guitar Tuner works great for me. A true bypass, no noise, and easy to see on the pedal board. I really like the option to tune down when needed and it is a good size for reading. Highly recommend.
Accurate tuning. Many modes let you tune by note or string number for guitar or bass. The output and bypass options are nice depending on whether you want to use it as a kill switch. Also like that it has it’s own 9v out, so you can chain it to another low-gain pedal.
If you are a musician, you know what this does…and you know you can’t do your job without it. Boss undoubtedly makes the most accurate and reliable tuner on the market for the working musician. Brighter LEDs on the TU-3 is the only reason my very road worn TU-2s have all gotten a well deserved retirement.
If you don’t have a tuner for live music, get one! Im tired of people thinking they can wing it these days with a bunch of boutique pedals but have no room for tuners on boards. Get a tuner. Get this tuner. And use it! One of the best tuners on the market.
TU-3 comes as a refresh to the TU-2, so the new model is now overhauled but improved in several aspects. For example, the new model has 21 LED indicators on the display, which is an upgrade from the TU-2’s 11. The new offering is also more accurate, registering the notes within +/-1 cent.
The device requires a 9V battery to work. On top of that, it comes included with a GP 1604G 9V 300mAh battery already installed.
To open the battery cavity you need to push the pedal down and then screw the knob on the bottom portion of it. Replace the battery, then push the casing down again and screw the knob back in.
Check light is there to signal the working state of the device. If the pedal is on, the light is also on.
While holding down the “MODE” button, turn on the power. When the green light at the center is on, press the “MODE” button once again. Wait for the green light to flash three times, and the pedal will be reset to the factory settings.
Turn on the pedal, then press the “MODE” button until the LED indicator is on the ♭ symbol. On factory settings, that is two button presses from the guitar setting.
The tuner isn’t supposed to interfere with the signal or make any noise when it is not engaged. If you are experiencing that, make sure that the device is plugged in correctly and that the power supply works properly. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
